Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the most streamed song within six months. The single a mix of reggaeton and pop music has not just brought attention to reggaeton but it also attracted attention towards Latin music in general. Billboard's Top 100 featured two songs in Spanish generally, and four songs in the year 2016. However, during the heights of Despacito's fame in 2017, there were 19 mostly Spanish tracks which made it into the top 100. In 2020, there were 41. In the wake of Justin Bieber's dual remix Despacito (2017), a number of bilingual remixes Despacito (2017) famous artists began to collaborate with reggaeton artists, including Drake and Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) and Madonna together with Maluma in Medellin (2019). The year 2000 saw a number of reggaeton stars were complaining about its inclination towards mainstream but a new generation namely Rauw Alejandro, aimed to ensure that reggaeton was evolving.
